BIM: beyond design

The latest ThinkBIM half-day event, organised by the Centre for Knowledge Exchange at Leeds Metropolitan University and supported by Tekla and Graphisoft, took place on 11 July 2012.

BIM: Beyond Design focussed on the value of BIM in the operational phase of the building lifecycle. What are the benefits of BIM in FM?

Deborah Rowland, Head of Facilities Management for the UK government opened the event with a focus on BIM and how it provides information through the construction process which will feed into FM through following a 'Soft Landings' process.

Marty Chobot, Vice Present of BIM at FMSystems presented live from Raleigh, North Carolina, providing an international dimension on BIM integration within FM.

And there were Pecha Kucha sessions (see bottom of page) from:
  • Stefan Mordue (NBS - video)
  • Jon Moorhouse (Constructive Thinking Studio - video)
  • Olli Aro (Clicks and Links - video)

Expert roundtables covered BIM whole lifecycle costs, BIM and building performance, BIM and asset management, and BIM benefits in FM.

The event was live-blogged, live-Tweeted and live-streamed using social media tools (hashtag: #TBIM2012 - see a time-ordered stream of the content including Twitter, photos (right) and Ustream video in the CoverItLive recording above) to encourage perspectives from international individuals and organisations unable to attend, to give Leeds businesses a wider business vision.
